Apple has revealed a new range of environmental programmes in India, with the Cupertino-based technology giant concentrating on renewable energy, plastic waste management and assistance for eco-friendly startups. The company states these measures are part of its larger objective to achieve complete carbon neutrality across its full business footprint by 2030. As part of this latest initiative, the iPhone manufacturer intends to invest Rs 100 crore to support the expansion of renewable energy infrastructure in the country.
Apple Broadens Renewable Energy Strategy In India
The US-based technology giant is collaborating with CleanMax to develop more than 150 megawatts of new renewable energy capacity in India. According to Apple, the proposed infrastructure may produce enough electricity to supply nearly 1.5 lakh Indian homes every year. This is not the first collaboration between Apple and CleanMax. Previously, both companies partnered on rooftop solar initiatives for Apple offices and retail outlets in India. Now, the collaboration seems to be scaling up at a significantly larger level. Apple also indicated that the partnership could expand further in the coming years as the company continues growing its clean energy presence across the country.
‘At Apple, our dedication to the environment is also a major catalyst for innovation- throughout the company and across the globe,’ said Sarah Chandler, Apple’s vice president of Environment and Supply Chain Innovation. ‘We’re pleased to strengthen our initiatives to invest in India’s clean energy sector and safeguard the nation’s valuable natural resources.’
Focus On Plastic Waste Management
Along with renewable energy, Apple says it is intensifying efforts to address plastic pollution in India. The Cupertino technology giant is partnering with WWF-India to support programmes connected to recycling and waste management. These initiatives are expected to improve the way plastic waste is gathered, separated and recycled while also helping stop waste from reaching nearby ecosystems. Although the company has not disclosed detailed targets yet, the initiative reflects a broader environmental effort beyond only energy infrastructure.
 Support For Sustainable Startups
Apple is additionally supporting Indian entrepreneurs developing sustainability-driven ventures. Through a partnership with Acumen, the company will provide catalytic grants to six startups operating in areas such as regenerative agriculture, waste management and circular economy solutions. According to Apple, the programme is intended to help these startups expand more rapidly by offering mentorship, technical support and access to industry networks. ‘The programme delivers mentorship, strategic advice, technical support, and network access to help social entrepreneurs validate promising business concepts and move toward scalable growth,’ the technology giant explained.
